Presidents Report  August 2026

There are a number of important events upcoming for the remainder of this year; I wish to inform and remind you about them.

We are planning to offer club members a variety of “mini” carving classes or activities this Fall aimed to appeal to the variety of interest and experience of our members. Please refer to the announcement with more information on these “classes”.

Also included in this issue of the newsletter, is the announcement of the naming of the Nominating Committee. The Committee’s function is to establish a slate of proposed club officers for 2027.

Our Editor includes a list of some of the Carving Shows in our general area. I request that you note the annual Show and Sale by the Rock River Valley Carvers of Wisconsin which will again be held at the Janesville Fair Ground on Saturday, the 12th of September 2026. Our club has reserved a table again this year; and we need members and carvings to represent our club during this Show and Sale!

There is to be a Chip Carving class offered this Fall through the Rock Valley College’s Center for Learning in Retirement (CLR). I believe this class will be held at the CLR building at 3350 N Bell School Road at a time other than our normal club carving sessions. The CLR Fall Class offerings and schedules are expected to be made public later this month.

Our annual Christmas Holiday Party is scheduled for Wednesday, the 9th of December 2026, at Peterson Meadows. Please save the date!

Included in this issue are a few pictures of some “Humorous Fishing Carvings’ by some of members over the years. In addition, there are the pictures of member carvings which were displayed for Show & Tell this past month.

Finally, remember we meet each Wednesday morning at the Ken-Rock building for our normal carving sessions.

Tyrone Johnsen

Secretary Report for July 2026

Meeting called to order by Tyrone Johnsen at 9:30am on July 15, 2026.  There were 18 in attendance.  We met for the second time in Ken Rock gym since our carving room was used for a children’s class.  Perhaps next month we will return to our usual room.

Minutes were read by Secretary Roger Benedict and approved.

Treasures report by Betty Gregory stated that all is well documented and balance is in good shape.  One out-going payment for Ken Rock was six-month rent. Next payment due January 2027.

President Report by Tyrone Johnsen

--A reminder we have one table reserved for the September Janesville carving show.

--A financial analysis was conducted to determine the stability of the finances.  Betty Gregory was asked to review last year to this year’s performance. Based on June of 2025 and 2026, remarkably 2026 was improved over 2025 and concluded due to the successful Christmas party raffel.

--Overall club success is due to membership of 42 and their paid up dues.  Also included are the past carving classes conducted by several members and of course the Christmas Party at Peterson Meadows.

--It was asked what drives the income and see the following:

Membership dues
Christmas raffle

Donations

--The Newsletter is driven by membership and officers’ inputs; thus, keep up the good work of giving Gordy Moscinski information, such as items for sale.

--A nominating committee was established of Betty Gregory, John Gregory, and Roger Benedict. This is in preparation For the November elections and October announcement in the Newsletter.

--Carving choices of objects is highly different among members and typically are due to how we are trained.  Some of us are trained in classes, self-taught, or by magazine articles. Personal choices always will continue, but perhaps through classes is still the best method of learning.  Usually, the class is developed with a carving object in mind and therefore has an opportunity to experience something new. Therefore, a huge effort will be made to encourage classes in 2027, and comments are open to opportunities. Most interesting would-be encouragement for spouses to attend to create additional appreciation.

--We need to keep in mind for three long term members such as Ted Faber, Tony DeVita, Steve Terrill, since they are noticeably absent as they need to convalesce at home; this reminded by Joel Taylor.

Adjoined at 10:08am

Respectfully submitted, Roger Benedict, secretary.
