The Blackhawk Woodcarver
Volume XXX, Issue 3
I was most pleasantly surprised when
Treasurer Larry Stenzel and member Don Stansfield informed me that we had
three new members join us while I was gone in February. Upon my return, I
got to meet each of the these new members. In this issue of the newsletter
there is a small introduction to one new member: Bill Aupperle. I hope to
have similar introductions to the other two: Jane McMillan and Ted Peterson,
in subsequent issues. Each person is unique and brings something new to the
table and has their own story, ideas, and experiences.
This month, following the normal
club business meeting, another of our newer members will share with us his
interest in carving and painting Song Birds. There is an announcement
regarding this presentation by Nick Scheuer in this issue.
Remember this club is a social club.
It brings together those of us who have an interest in woodcarving. Sharing
and learning from each other!

Meet a new Member; Wm “Bill” Aupperle
Bill Aupperle is a retired
Sundstrand/UTC electrical system engineer. Bill has the following to say
about his interest in woodcarving and joining Blackhawk Woodcarvers:
“It is great to be part of this
club. I have already met quite a few members after only attending a few
meetings. It is great to feel welcome! Like many of you members, I have been
wood carving on-and-off for quite a long time. I enjoy all kinds of carving;
but plan on spending more time on figure carving.
Most of my ideas for carvings come
from watching internet web-sites; YouTube videos and online streaming
carving classes. I look forward to demonstrations and sharing ideas,
including tips ‘n tricks for carving.”

Presentation – Wednesday 19th
of March
Song Birds, Carving &
Painting
Nicholas “Nick” Scheuer
Blackhawk Woodcarvers member Nick
Scheuer will speak on “Carving Song Birds”. Nick will share with us his
interest in song birds and his philosophy and tips on carving and painting
them. Nick strives to carve his song birds in true life size, capturing
their distinctive characteristics and coloration. He carves his birds from
white pine and colors them with oil stains.
Nick’s presentation will be on
Wednesday morning, March 19, following our monthly business meeting and Show
& Tell.
A little
humor
Why did the woodcarving apprentice
bring a ladder to the workshop? Because they heard the carving was going to
be on another level!
Why did the woodcarver always bring
a pencil to work?
