The Blackhawk Woodcarver
Volume XXVII, Issue 1
Presidents Report
January 2022
I would like to thank the following
people for all the work they have done for Blackhawk Wood carvers
Tyrone Johnsen for all the years as
President
Dick Dunphey as Vice President
Steve Terrill as Secretary
Larry Stenzel as Treasurer
Gordy Moscinski as newsletter editor
Show your appreciation and thank
these people for what they do.
My first meeting started out with
mother nature letting us know who’s in charge. She blasted us with strong
winds, cold and blowing snow! This didn’t stop seven of us from coming in
and carving a comfort bird. It was a fast carve and fun to do. Gordy was
going to instruct this project, but surgery got in the way, so I took his
place.
Gordy and Dick have put together a
carving program. There will be two classes the first two weeks of the month
the last two weeks will be for finishing the projects. We would like your
suggestion on carving projects in the future. We are looking for more people
to teach a carving program. This is a way to help make the carving program
work. All of us are capable to teach a project. When you explain to your
fellow carver how you carved it, you are teaching.

Thanks to Becky Neubauer for making
the egg bake and for all the beautiful table decorations. The members also
brought other delicious food to be shared. It was wonderful to all be
together.

Mini
Lessons for 2022
We have started some mini carving
lessons starting in January. They will be held on Wednesdays at KenRock
during our usual Wednesday morning sessions. It is
thought that a member will bring in the materials for a
carving, woodburning, etc. and share their knowledge and help in completing
the project. The first mini lesson was on January 5 with
Gordy providing a blank for a comfort bird and Denny substituted as the
instructor. There will be a minimal charge. Hopefully
these projects will be completed in one or two morning sessions.
We need some ideas for these mini
lessons and a brave volunteer to lead sessions. All
members of this club are very talented and many are especially talented in
their given style. Please feel free to submit ideas to
Richard Dunphy and volunteer to be a presenter. It will
take everyone to make this fun, informative, and improve our craft.
