Blackhawk Woodcarvers Host 6th Annual Show

The Blackhawk Woodcarvers of Rockford Illinois hosted their 6th annual carving show on June 11, 2000. The auditorium at Kenrock Community Center was full of carving tables, carvers and show visitors. Carvers from Illinois, Wisconsin and Iowa particitpated. The one day show had a visitor attendance of 500 with 35 carvers and vendors participating.

This years vendors were Cliff Drinkwine from Madison, WI (tools). Del Lor from Rockford, IL (wood). Pete Altage from MO (cutouts), and Gotleb Brandli from Monroe, WI (chip carving supplies).

Features of this years show that proved to be hit were the children's soap carving table supervised by Tony DeVita along with Elaine and Gail Terrell which was continually busy with future carvers. An area for continuous VCR demonstration of carving run by Marshall Field Jr. also proved to be a popular attraction with the carvers and the non- carver show attendees.

Club President Gary Meyer and his group of club members pro-vided a quick show setup and take down. Thanks to these people for all the work put into making things run smoothly. Special thanks to Dolores Cascio, Judy Englund, Marion Blasco and Dave Lothian for their efforts in the judged carving tallies and distribution of awards. Thanks again to Larry Clark and his crew, Dolores Cascio, Gary Meyer, Judy Englund, Wes Englund and Gordy Moscinski for making a photo record of all the winners and the display tables of the individual carvers. Thanks to the judges, Jay Brost from Fontana, WI and Paul Hochstetter from Poynet, WI, who had a challenge in selecting winners from the 85 entries in the judged competition. Thanks to their efforts the three levels of carving skills (beginners. intermediate and advanced) received helpful comments about improving their carvings.

The judges awarded the "Best of Show" to Ernst Possner's animal carving at the advanced level. This carving also won a first in that category. Bob Le Master won the "People's Choice" for the second year in a row for his excellent display of carvings on his show table.
